Magazine ranks Bearcats No. 13

Dave Campbell's Texas Football Magazine has ranked Pilot Point No.13 in the state in its preseason edition, which hit the stands Monday.
The Bearcats are returning 10 starters after falling to the state champion Muleshoe in the state semifinals last season, but head coach Blake Feldt gives little to no weight to preseason polls.
"Those preseason polls don't mean anything," he said. "It's a neat deal that they've got us in the top 20, but none of that matters. It's not how you start; it's how you finish."
The magazine's summer preview issue also predicts that the Bearcats will win District 10-2A and repeat their playoff run, falling in the Class 2A Division I state semifinals, only this time to Clyde.

Nothing can stop 'em now

With no inclement weather on the radar, nothing should stop the Ferris Yellowjackets (1-1) from playing Pilot Point (2-0) a visit Friday night.
Where the night will go from there is still to be decided.
Last year's Pilot Point - Ferris game was cancelled when Hurricane Ike sent a stream of fleeing Gulf Coast residents north up Interstate 45, right through Ferris. The Bearcats played only nine games before advancing to the state playoffs.

Bearcats to open 10-2A race with 0-5 Pottsboro
By Veronica Hamlett
Staff Writer
With a record of 5-0, Pilot Point is off to it's best regular season start in head coach Blake Feldt's five-year tenure, but with the start of District 10-2A plat this Friday, the record might as well be 0-0.
"As I've told the team, 5-0 is great, but doesn't account for anything when considering all of our goals," Feldt said. 'Our season starts this week. It's starting right now."
The Bearcats begin district play at winless Pottsboro. The Cardinals' losing record is misleading, Feldt said. Pottsboro advanced to the Class 2A Division II state semifinals last season, but returned only one starter this fall, defensive end Malcolm Blanco, who has made 27 tackles and four sacks this season.

Bearcats take 10-0 record into playoffs

Pilot Point did what only six other teams in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex could do after handing Aubrey its first loss of the season.
The Bearcats pulled off the perfect season.
Friday's 35-14 win over the previously unbeaten Chaparrals- the season's most anticipated game since G.A. Moore took command in Aubrey- gave the Bearcats their first 10-0 season since 1998. Pilot Point also won its second straight district championship for the first time since the 1992-1993 seasons.

Bearcats set their sights on state championship, but Brady is in the way
By Veronica Hamlett
Staff Writer
In many ways, the 2009 Bearcats have been the image of their 2008 counterparts.
Both won district championships with perfect records. Both stepped over Boyd and Gunter in the first two rounds of the playoffs. Both won their third-round playoff games on late field goals by Ruben Martinez to advance to the semifinals.
This year's Bearcats hope the coincidences end there.
Pilot Point, now 13-0 and the Class 2A Division I Region II champion, will face Brady, also 13-0 and the Region I champion the state semifinals Saturday. The game will be at 2:00 pm at Tarleton State University's Memorial Stadium.

The third time was just as charming as the others.
The 2009 Pilot Point Bearcats joined an elite group when they won the school's third state football championship in the 78 year history of the program.
It may have been an overcast day Saturday afternoon in San Marcos, but all was bright and shiny on the Pilot Point side as the Bearcats defeated Kirbyville, 35-18, at Bobcat Stadium on the Texas State University campus.

Tilley moves to top in passing records
By Veronica Hamlett
Staff Writer
One could say that Seth Tilley surprised us all.
The senior quarterback built his reputation on his legs last season, earning more yards and touchdowns on the ground than in the air.
A year older and wiser, Tilley spent the summer playing 7-on-7 ball, developing his arm. He took to the air a little more each week and before anyone realized it, Tilley made the pass attack equally as dangerous as its ground game.

Rushing records fall in Johnson's wake
By Veronica Hamlett

It was a season of epic proportions for Jarman Johnson.
The senior running back dazzled fans and duped defenses for 15 weeks with his quick feet, racking up yard after yard on his way to all three school rushing records and the state championship.
Johnson now holds Pilot Point's career record with 4,887 yards, the single season record with 2,985 yards and single game record with 383 yards, which he accumulated against Boyd in the first round of the playoffs.
