After a couple of weeks of rain, the field conditions at Callisburg High School went from bad to worse on Friday night.
Both Callisburg and Pilot Point had problems, but the Bearcats overcame their mistakes with good defense and hard play on offense to survive with a 30-20 District 10-2A victory.
The Bearcats, ranked No. 6 in the state in Class 2A By Dave Campbell's Texas Football and No. 7 by the Associated Press, improved to 4-0 in district and 9-0 for the year and set up a showdown on Friday at home against Aubrey for the district championship. Both Pilot Point and Aubrey have already clinched playoff spots.
The score may have indicated a close game, but Callisburg scored two touchdowns on two big plays- a fumble recovery and a punt return.
