Bearcats top Gunter in regional, 28-14


Pilot Point quarterback Seth Tilley scored from 15 yards out with 1:06 left in the game to secure a 28-14 victory for the Bearcats over Gunter in a Class 2A Division I regional playoff game at Frisco Friday night.

Pilot Point owned a 21-7 lead with five minutes left in the game, but Gunter narrowed the score on a 16-yard pass from Richard Young to Chad Tucker with 3:42 left. Tilley engineered a last-minute scoring driving after the Bearcats covered Gunter's on-side kick at midfield.

Tilley rushed for 164 yards on the night. Jarman Johnson rushed for 115 yards and scored twice. J.P. Price scored Pilot Point's first touchdown on a nine-yard run in the opening period. Ruben Martinez added four extra points for the Bearcats.

Pilot Point (12-0) will play Godley (12-0) in the quarterfinals round of the playoffs next Saturday. The game will be played at Saginaw High School at 2:30 p.m.


Bearcats take tigers by the tail

Pilot Point had to work for a win over Gunter in the second round of the Class 2A Division II playoffs on a rainy Friday night in Frisco.
The Bearcats came away with a 28-14 victory that wasn't final until quarterback Seth Tilley scored from 15 yards out with three minutes left in the fourth period.
"It was a great game. We got their best effort," said Pilot Point head coach Blake Feldt.
"Gunter always does a fantastic job, especially on defense, and they were no different tonight.
