Bearcats charge past Lindsay, 43-7
The Pilot Point Bearcats bounced back from last week’s tough loss with a runaway victory against the Lindsay Knights.
The Bearcats exploded for 33 first-half points en route to a 43-7 victory.
“That’s what good teams do – they bounce back from adversity,” said Pilot Point coach Rob Best. “We played a lot better on both sides of the ball and now we have to build on that.”
With the Bearcats jumping out to a big lead, Travis Garrett watched from the sidelines and backup Xavier Alexander got some playing time.
Alexander responded with some big numbers, completing 8 of his 14 passes for 137 yards and two scores.
“This was Xavier’s first time to see some real time action at game speed,” said Best. “I think he did a heck of a job for us.”
Tristen Jurecka ran for more than 100 yards in the game, and Dacoven Bailey had 78 yards receiving along with 76 yards on the ground.
Offensively, the Bearcats racked up 448 total yards.
“We played a good game offensively, but our defense played a great game too,” said Best. “We can’t talk about our offense without talking about the defense.”
In the first half, the Knights had negative rushing yards against the solid Bearcat defense.
The second and third teams did a good job as well and almost held the shutout, allowing a lone score by Lindsay late in the final quarter.
“We got to play a lot of kids. These kids all practice and its good for them and the coaches when they get some playing time. They will get to watch film of themselves and see what improvements need to be made,” said Best. “But as mentioned before, we just need to build on this.”
