Martinez's first field-goal kick lifts Bearcats to regional title.

By now, most everyone has heard the tale of how a freshman was pulled from physical education class, joined the Pilot Point football team five weeks ago and kicked his first career field goal last week to win a state quarterfinal playoff game.

Yes, it's true.  Ruben Martinez was the game hero who kicked a 25-yard field goal with four seconds left to lift the Bearcats over Winssboro, 27-24, Saturday afternoon at Royse City ISD Statium.

The Bearcats (11-1) face Muleshoe (13-0) in the state semifinals at 4 p.m. Saturday at Shotwell Stadum in Abilene.
