Bearcats hold on to beat Gunter

Even though they were leading, 15-13, things didn't look good for the Pilot Point Bearcats late in their Class 2A Division I playoff game with Gunter.

The Tigers were driving, and a field goal would win it.

"They've got a great field goal kicker," Pilot Point coach Blake Feldt said. "They were already easily within his range."

That's when sophomore Austin Balderas decided enough was enough.

The Bearcats' linebacker stripped the ball from Gunter's Chad Tucker, and he recovered the fumble to preserve Pilot Points regional playoff victory Friday night at Frisco ISD Stadium.

The Bearcats (10-1) advance to the state quarterfinals against Winnsboro (10-2) at 2 p.m. Saturday in Royse City.
