In a game being taped for a television audience, the Celina Bobcats probably will send most surfing channels by halftime.
The Bobcats dominated from the opening whistle on both sides of the ball Friday night in a 51-6 victory over the Pilot Point Bearcats at Bobcat Stadium.
“Physically we got whipped,” said Pilot Point coach Blake Feldt. “Physically they got after us from the first snap and we didn’t respond.”
Celina flexed its muscle defensively holding Pilot Point to 106 yards of offense and just seven first downs. The Bearcats had minus-15 yards on the ground as the Bobcats recorded eight sacks.
“I was worried about us moving the ball on them,” Feldt said. “Everywhere they were totally whipping us.”
Pilot Point’s lone score came in the fourth quarter on a 10-yard run by backup quarterback Ethan Stuckly. Stuckly’s touchdown run came one play after the highlight for the Bearcats, a 66-yard pass from Stuckly to Arthur Buckingham.
Stuckly was 1-for-2 through the air for 66 yards. Buckingham finished five of 19 for 55 yards.
While the Pilot Point offense struggled to gain yards against the Bobcats’ defense, the Bearcats’ defense fared no better at slowing Celina’s offense.
Celina took 10 plays to score on the opening drive of the game and never slowed down. The Bobcats scored on their first five possessions, building a 33-0 lead at halftime. Celina rolled up 260 of their 427 yards in the first half.
“That’s probably the best we played there in the first half,” said Celina coach Butch Ford. “The lone mistake was the blocked punt.”
Pilot Point’s Monty Chambers blocked the punt, which was recovered at the Celina 8-yard line. The Bearcats got to the 2-yard line, but were turned away on fourth down.
The Celina special teams made up for the blocked punt. The Bobcats recovered an onside kick, blocked a punt for a safety and also blocked an extra point, which Taylor Kolb returned for two points.
Celina finished with 306 yards rushing. Charley Waldrep ran for 82 yards and a touchdown. He also caught a touchdown. Celina quarterback Seth Davis ran for 96 yards and two scores. He also threw for one, completing eight of nine attempts for 96 yards.
The game will be on KTXA 21 Saturday at 3 p.m.
