Cats fall short against Little Elm, 27-21

The short-handed Pilot Point Bearcats never found a way to stop Little Elm quarterback Cole Beasley Friday night.
The sophomore signal caller threw for a pair touchdowns and ran for another in the Lobos' 27-21 win over the Bearcats at Little Elm's Marion Field.
Beasley finished with 135 yards on 17 carries on the ground and threw for 152 yards, completing 10 of his 13 attempts with one interception.
"This isn't the first night he's done that," said Pilot Point coach Blake Feldt. "He's a great player and he's just a sophomore. He's going to be big time."
Beasley did most of his damage in the second half, leading Little Elm to touchdowns on three of their four second-half possessions and back from a 7-6 halftime deficit.
Beasley put the Lobos on top with a 1-yard run around the end to cap the opening drive of the second half.
After Pilot Point answered with a 15-yard Grant Guthrie run to tie the game at 14-14, Beasley's knack for big plays led to Little Elm scores on the next two drives. On a third-and-13, Beasley scrambled and hit Casey Davis for 31 yards to keep a drive alive. Thomas Stauts ended the drive with a 2-yard run.
On Little Elm's next drive, one play after a holding call backed up Little Elm out to the Pilot Point 15 for a second-and-goal, Beasley scrambled around long enough to find Demetrius Tryels in the end zone. The 15-yard connection with Tryels gave Little Elm a two-touchdown advantage with 6:58 to play.
"We knew about his speed," said Pilot Point senior linebacker John Grumbles. "Our containment just broke down."
Down 27-14, Pilot Point was able to add another score with a 12-play, 68-yard drive. Calvin Washington capped the drive with a 1-yard plunge with 2:12 to play.
Pilot Point failed to recover the onside kick, which bounced over Little Elm's front line and out of bounds. A 14-yard scramble by Beasley on third-and-11, got a first down and allowed the Lobos to run out the clock.
Little Elm finished with 393 yards of offense against the Bearcats.
Pilot Point managed 248 yards with 150 through the air from quarterback Arthur Buckingham. Buckingham completed 11 of his 19 attempts. He also added 36 yards on the ground.
Grant Guthrie led the Pilot Point ground game with 37 yards on eight carries. Guthrie scored a pair of touchdowns.
Pilot Point was without four starters in the game, including starting linemen Corey Ham and Brent Gray and starting tailback Blake Feagins. They still left Little Elm feeling they let one slip away.
"We played as hard as we could," Buckingham said. "We missed a few opportunities. It's the hardest we've played all year. But it's still a loss."
