Bearcats run past Tom Bean, 33-8

By David Hausman Staff Writer
On the second try, the Pilot Point Bearcats and Blake Feagins got head coach Blake Feldt his first win on the Pilot Point sidelines.
With 370 yards rushing and five touchdowns on the ground, the Bearcats rolled to a 33-8 victory over the Tom Bean Tomcats.
"We were disappointed after last week." said Feldt. "We did not play disciplined football. We wanted to come out and get things going early.
"We came into the game wanting to establish the run early."
It was a goal they accomplished. Feagins rushed for 211 yards and two touchdowns in the first half. Feagins finished with a career-high 292 yards and three touchdowns.
The Bearcats opened the game with a 14-play drive that ate up 6:28 of the clock. Arthur Buckingham finished off the drive with a two-yard touchdown run.
The Bearcats followed up with a 12-play, 86-yard drive that ended on a four-yard Feagins score.
After Tom Bean scored to pull within seven, 13-6, the Tomcats attempted on onside kick. The Tomcats recovered the ball, but the officials ruled it had not traveled the required 10 yards.
Pilot Point quickly took advantage of that opportunity. Feagins and the offense took four plays to score.
On the Bearcats' first possession of the second half, Feagins sprinted untouched from midfield to quickly make the score 27-6.
Buckingham scored the final points for the Bearcats, netting 27 yards on a sweep behind the left side of the line. Buckingham's dash put Pilot Point up 33-6.
Tom Bean scored on a safety in the fourth quarter when Michael Yarnell fumbled the ball in the end zone.
After the quick start, the Bearcats were plagued by turnovers and penalties late in the game.
"We will have to watch the film to see what happened there [with the sloppy play]," Feldt said. "Whether we were tired or just not executing, either way there is no excuse for those penalties."
The Bearcats defense improved significantly this week, holding Tom Bean to 172 yards rushing and only 47 yards through the air. The defense finished with six takeaways - three fumbles and three interceptions.
"Defensively we changed some things up and we are doing some new things," Feldt said. "We have moves some guys around from last week and we are still going through some growing pains. We still have to get more aggressive and get after it more."
Joe Vine had two fumble recoveries. Ricky Henderson picked off two passes. John Grumbles added a fumble recovery and Adam McBride an interception.
