Bearcats deck Cards, 28-7
The Pilot Point Bearcats are one victory away from a return trip to the Class 3A playoffs.
The Bearcats (5-4, 2-2) pounded out a 28-7 win Friday night over the Pottsboro Cardinals to keep their post-season hopes alive.
"One more and we'll get to play somebody," said Pilot Point coach G.A. Moore.
The Bearcats' defense was one drive away from recording its second shutout of the season. Pilot Point limited the Cardinals to 163 yards of total offense.
Pottsboro's 67-yard scoring drive to end the third quarter was more than a third of its total offense. The drive was capped by a 3-yard Jordan Outlaw scoring run with 24 seconds left in the third quarter, bringing Pottsboro to within two scores, 21-7.
Pilot Point held Pottsboro at bay the rest of way. Bearcats back C.J. Hatten scored with 1:13 left in the game to push Pilot Point back up by 21 points.
Hatten scored three times, rushing for 60 yards on 13 carries.
Pilot Point quarterback Josh LeBlanc threw for 156 yards, completing nine of his 24 attempts.
Pilot Point tight end Damas Reed finished with 114 yards on four receptions.
